Naar aanleiding van het schilderij “Verzoeking van de Heilige Antonius”. Deze Antonius uit Turkije heeft het lastig. Kenmerkend zijn de varkens waarmee hij zich omringt, de demonen die hij bevecht, en de bellen die beiden bij zich dragen: Varkens en Antonius. In dit werk houdt Antonius zijn toekomstig aureooll in zijn handen. Is hij waardig genoeg voor de titel “heilige”? Daarvoor moeten nog wat demonen bestreden worden. In de bel aan zijn stok, het handvat van zijn mes: telkens weer duiken ze op. Gezeten op een van zijn varkens weet hij het niet zo goed. Giechelt hij achter zijn hand? Of is het afgrijzen omdat in de hoek van zijn blikveld meer te zien is, dan wij kunnen bedenken…

Following the painting "Temptation of Saint Anthony". This Antonius from Turkey is having a hard time. Characteristic are the pigs with which he surrounds himself, the demons he fights, and the bells that both carry with him: Pigs and Antonius. In this work Antonius holds his future halo in his hands. Is he worthy enough for the title "saint"? For that, some demons still have to be fought. In the bell on his stick, the handle of his knife: they pop up again and again. Sitting on one of his pigs, he doesn't know very well. Does he giggle behind his hand? Or is it horror because there is more to see in the corner of his field of vision than we can imagine ...
